Professional Development tracks for undergraduates, current graduate students and professionals, as well as prospective doctoral students. Session descriptions are provided below.
Undergraduate track:

Weekend Warriors: Flying to New Heights at Interview Weekends
SPAHE Students, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro

This session will focus on how to navigate the interview weekend in hopes of giving students the skills they need to have an informative and enjoyable experience at their prospective schools. Presenters will walk students through schedules from different institutions and point out various tips and tricks along the way.

Assistantships, Internships, and Practicums: How to get the experiences that you need and want in Student Affairs

This session will explore how internships, practica, and assistantships can be structured and obtained to gain more hands on experience as part of a graduate program in student affairs. The panelists will explore and discuss their journey and the challenges faced when strategically considering these experiences to best prepare them for a career in student affairs. Participants of this program will 1) become familiar with internships, practicums, assistantships and other experiential opportunities available; 2) develop or refine plans for their own advancement; 3) explore the presenters’ personal experiences.

Do you enjoy shows like "Whose line is it anyway?" Do you think at some point in your life you may have to participate in an interview? Or 4? or 10? Join Dr. Alan Mueller, Assistant Academic Dean for Career Development at Guilford College, and Improvisational Comic for a session on how comedy can make you a better interviewer. If you can do a convincing improv scene about Beyonce and Taylor Swift riding tractors through Siberia, questions like "tell me about yourself" will seem easy!

Whether your pursuit of a doctorate is going to lead your career to positions in administration or faculty, or you’re not quite sure what to do with it afterwards; This session will provide you with information on what kinds of experiences are available to supplement your post-doctorate aspirations. The panelists will share their experiences to enable participants to have a balanced view of the doctoral journey in order to set appropriate expectations for life afterwards.
